A tyre is not enough to think of a safety risk, although it has been, says Nokian Tyres Technical Customer Service Manager, Matti Morri.

Studded or non-studded?

The study shows that nearly 90% of Finns know that studded tyres are a safer choice on an icy road. The same is also true to varying conditions, such as city streets, where the grip conditions can vary several times during the same day. Furthermore, 69% of Finns believe that studded winter tyre is a better option for driving conditions on the countryside.

- In rural areas, weather conditions do not vary much more than in the city, in which case the choice of non-studded tyre can also be justified. In challenging weather conditions, the winter tyre, of course bites better, Morri said.

Varying weather conditions associated with the varying perceptions of studded and non-studded tyres differ. The study also investigated male and female respondents' differences of opinion on what tyre works best in which circumstances.

- Male respondents, 23% were of the opinion that the non-studded and studded tyres are on the same level on snowy or slushy roads. This view of women was only 14%, says Morri results.

Facts about the winter tyre study in 2011

- The winter tyre survey was conducted by YouGov Finland.
- The survey asked opinions about studded and non-studded tyres and their suitability in different weather conditions.
- Data collected from the web survey between July 1 to July 6 2011, during the consumer panel of YouGov Group. The panel includes 25 000 people in Finland.
- Number of survey respondents was 1005. The target group was 18-74 year-old Finns.
- The start and the final number of respondents were chosen accordingly of the population by age, sex and country of residence.
Tue, 01 Nov 2011 10:36:04 GMThttp://rengas.soup.io/post/187749506/Study-70-of-Finns-choose-studded-tyresurn:www-soup-io:1:187749506regulartalvirengas Tyre safety during the winter season {"tags":["talvirengas","renkaat"],"type":"link","title":"Tyre safety during the winter season","source":"http://www.flickr.com/photos/nokian-tyres/6174180393/in/photostream","body":"\u003Cp\u003EThe\ntopic of the jubilee seminar was tyre safety during the winter\nseason.
